Memory:
After my freshmen year at Judge Memorial Catholic High School I decided that I wanted a new beginning. That is how I made the choice to transfer to the Academy for Math, Engineering & Science. My sophomore year at AMES gave me the chance to start over. During the first semester my cousin Luciana had made the choice to join me and lived with my father and I for a while. Everyone here is so supportive and understanding.
My freshmen year at Judge had been a rocky start to high school. I had no motivation to push forward. I had been preoccupied by what was going on at home. You see, my mother was diagnosed with Cancer prior to my Quinceañera that year. There were so many things going on in my life that it became impossible to concentrate on school. I knew my mom wouldnt survive this and before long she was gone and I couldn’t handle it.
After my freshmen year at Judge I wanted to move on and the Academy for Math, Engineering & Science gave me the opportunity to a new beginning. I was given the chance to retake the courses that were required to go on. I still had a lot on my mind that was irrelevant to my education. I was still overwhelmed with grief, but was able to move forward. I pushed myself to continue my education with the support of my father and AMES faculty and staff.
